Because most Wear OS watches will be stuck on older software. Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch mind you, would be the first device to come with Wear OS 3.1. Should the information be accurate. And if it is, then it shouldn’t be surprising. Since Google does the same thing with its Pixel phones and launches a new version of Android alongside them.
The Pixel Watch will come with Wear OS 3.1 and is codenamed Rohan
The rumor, which comes from Evan Blass on Twitter, is an image of what appears to be from an “interactive tutorial” that would show people how to use features on the Pixel Watch. In the image, you don’t see the watch itself, but what you do see is a dropdown menu that says Wear OS 3.1. It also states the Pixel Watch codename – Rohan. Either someone at Google is a fan of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure or they’re a big fan of the Lord of The Rings franchise. Of course it’s also possible that Rohan could be the name for any other number of reasons. But we digress. Why the codename is the codename is of almost no consequence. The important factor here is that the watch appears to be coming with a new version of the Wear OS software. Which means other watches will likely bumped up from 3.0 at some point further down the line. The other part of the rumor is that the watch seems to be coming soon. As Blass states that it “won’t be long now.” Suggesting Google will be announcing it in the near future. This likely means we’ll hear it about it at Google I/O coming up.
