In a blog post, Google has detailed when Workspace admins will receive these security alerts. Firstly, any changes to the primary admin will trigger the alert. Additionally, admins will also be notified when a third-party SSO (single sign-on) profile has been added and enabled for their organization. The alerts will pop up on updating or deletion of a third-party SSO profile as well. Last but not least, a password reset for a super admin account will also generate a security notification. The security alerts will pop up in the Alert Center when these events surface in the audit log. Workspace admins and super admins will also receive an email with additional information regarding the event. If they suspect a potential security threat, they can further investigate the event using investigation tools. “These additional intelligent alerts will closely monitor several sensitive actions, making it easier for admins to stay on top of high-risk changes to their environment and potentially malicious actions being taken by bad actors,” Google said. The company plans to introduce alerts for more such sensitive events and actions within Workspace in the future. It will update users once it’s ready.
Google adds more security tools to Workspace
Over the past few months, Google has rolled out several numerous security measures to its Workspace tools. It recently started showing security banners that alert users of potentially dangerous or malicious links or files in Docs, Drive, Chat, and other productivity apps. Users with client-side encryption enabled for Docs, Sheets, and Slides can also make a copy of an existing encrypted document. The company also lets users of some Workspace editions include Drive for Desktop within their client-side encryption configurations. The newly announced alerts for sensitive events and actions further enhance the security of Google’s productivity and collaboration tools. These alerts are now rolling out to accounts on both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. It should be available to all eligible users over the next couple of weeks or so. Google says all Workspace customers and legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers will receive it. The new security alerts, including the email notifications, are on by default for admins and super admins. They cannot turn it off. The latest Workspace update has no impact to end users.
