The company says that the new SSD will go up for pre-order in November. There will be four models to initially choose from. A 1TB model and a 2TB model, both with and without the heatsink. Samsung also plans to launch a 4TB model of the drive in 2023. Unfortunately, it hasn’t given out specific availability dates for the 4TB model. But it should come in both heatsink and non-heatsink models. If you don’t need all that space, then you only have a couple more weeks to wait and you can pre-order the new drive.

The Samsung 990 Pro NVMe SSD will launch in November

The Samsung 990 Pro will become available for pre-order on November 1, with a launch later that month. It was designed for gaming and gives noticeable performance improvements over the 980 Pro. It has the world’s first 8nm controller for consumer SSDs. And that probably sounds like nothing. But it actually improves the power efficiency. Samsung claims an increase of up to 50% compared to the 980 Pro. And that’s no small jump. It also offers sequential read speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 6,900 MB/s. Compared to the 980 Pro which has a sequential read speed of up to 7,000 MB/s and a sequential write speed of up to 5,100 MB/s. The new drive is also PCIe Gen 4 which makes it suitable for either PC gaming or as an expandable drive for the PS5 console. Though if you get it for the PS5 you’ll want the heatsink model. Starting November 1 consumers can pre-order the 990 Pro from samsung.com in 1TB or 2TB without a heatsink for $169.99 and $289.99 respectively. The model with the heatsink will be up for pre-order at $189.99 for the 1TB and $309.99 for the 2TB.
