The Pixel watch is Google’s first wearable device, and we were excited about it for the past six years. It was just unveiled, and it starts at a whopping $349. If you want to know more about this device you can click here.
The Google Home app is available for Wear OS, but there is a catch
As stated before, Google is now focusing more on its wearable operating system. For the past couple of years, you were wondering if Google remembered that it even had a wearable operating system. However, it unveiled Wear OS 3 last year. Now that the Pixel Watch is finally a thing, Wear OS is going to get some more love. Case and point, the Google Home app is now available for Wear OS. This is the app that will let you control your smart home devices with a simple tap on the wrist. Right now, the functionality is quite limited. You have access to simple controls like adjusting light brightness, adjusting media volume, and adjusting the temperature for connected thermostats. Other than that, you can’t really do anything else. So, it does not seem like you will be able to create or edit rooms. Also, you may not have access to most of your essential settings. There’s a button in the tile, however, that will open the app on your phone for more functionality.
So, what’s the catch?
Well, you can only get Google Home on Wear OS if you’re using a watch running version 3 or newer. This means that the majority of Wear OS users have been alienated. The tile requires Android APK version 30 or higher, and that’s based on Android 11. We’re not sure if Google will trickle this down to older versions of the operating system eventually. If it doesn’t, then we can expect a lot of people to be upset. Wear OS 3 is still very scarce at the moment, only Samsung could use it for its watches until earlier this year. Over time, however, we know that Wear OS 3 will make its way to more devices, so more people will be able to use it.
