It’s no doubt that Verizon is definitely behind when it comes to raw 5G coverage. It trails both AT&T and T-Mobile, but that doesn’t mean that it’s bad in any way. On the contrary, Verizon’s repeatedly won awards for its speed and reliability. That’s an area that T-Mobile, even though it has the largest coverage, struggles in.

Verizon partnered to develop a 5G-powered AR adventure game

Now, Verizon wants to use that award-winning 5G to immerse people in a new game. This game is going to be fueled by Verizon’s 5G network and it’ll plunge players into the metaverse. It’s called Helio, and it will have the players using their environment as a playground. The gameplay itself might remind people of Ingress, but it doesn’t seem like it’ll require the player to travel all around their city. The player will look for “glitches” to hack. As they hack glitches, they’ll gradually uncover clues to a mystery. Apparently, there’s a huge conspiracy going on, and you’re the one charged to uncover it. Let’s not mince words here, this is a marketing stunt to bring more attention to Verizon’s brand of 5G. It will run using the company’s Ultra Wideband network. Also, it’s meant to appeal to people who are really into the metaverse and like to game using AR functionality. While one game wouldn’t be enough to entice many people to switch carriers, those who are already using Verizon might be swayed to jump onto a plan that enables 5G Ultra Wideband. No doubt Verizon will do a lot of marketing to spread the word. We don’t know the exact date this game will launch, but the company says that it will launch sometime in the fall. Hopefully, we’ll get some more information on this game and maybe see some gameplay before the official launch.
